Markets Live: No-trust motion against Modi Govt pulls Sensex down 146 points; Nifty ends below 11K

The Sensex ended lower by 146.52 points or 0.4 per cent at 36,373.44 and the Nifty down 27.6 points or 0.25 per cent at 10,980.45 as the Narendra Modi Government will face the no-confidence motion moved by TDP and other Opposition Parties on Friday.
“The House will take up the debate (on the motion) on Friday, July 20th. The discussion will be held for the full day, followed by voting on it,” Mahajan announced in the House when it reassembled after the lunch break on the first day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament.
The BSE index touched intraday high of 36,747.87 and a low of 36,320.92 and the NSE index hovered between 11,076.20 and 10,956.30.
Top five Sensex gainers were ONGC, Asian Paints, YES Bank, HDFC and Hero MotoCorp, while the major losers were Tata Steel, Vedanta, Axis Bank, HUL and Tata Motors.


Barring oil & gas, all other BSE sectoral indices ended in the red.
As per provisional data, foreign portfolio investors sold shares worth Rs 673.99 crore yesterday, while domestic institutional investors bought shares worth Rs 840.06 crore.
