Boulders Beach in Simon’s Town has a growing African penguin colony that grown to about 2,500 in recent years. Commercial fishing has reduced in these waters resulting in an abundant supply of pilchards and anchovies that form an essential part of a penguin’s diet.

Penguins waddle around the colony in pairs or dive into the warm waters and swim at a speed of 7 kmph. They can remain under water for up to five minutes. It is great fun to swim with the penguins in the shallow waters of the Indian Ocean.
